Mental health challenges affect every community, but in Punjabi and South Asian cultures, stigma, language barriers, and generational differences can make it hard to seek support. You might wonder if therapy will understand your values, your traditions, and your lived experiences. As a first-generation, Punjabi-speaking counsellor, I offer a compassionate space where you can share in your own language, and be met with understanding, respect, and cultural humility.
South Asian communities are among the largest ethno-cultural groups in British Columbia, yet tend to access mental health and substance use services less often than the general population. Barriers such as stigma, lack of culturally relevant resources, and language differences can make it even harder to get support.
I grew up as a first-generation, Punjabi-speaking son of immigrant parents from Punjab, India. I recognize how important it is to feel heard and respected. My practice is rooted in culturally sensitive, trauma-informed care for concerns such as depression, anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, substance use, and family conflict.
